What are Permissions?
Permissions are a list of settings that determine whether a family member can see, edit, and/or delete certain parts of the app. Each family member has their own set of Permissions, which control what they can access and do.
The user who creates a family has all Permissions enabled by default.
Who can change Permissions?
To change another family member’s Permissions, you must have the “Can add Family Members and Change Member’s Permissions” Permission enabled yourself.
How to change a family member’s Permissions
- In the app, go to Settings.
- Tap Family Member Management. You’ll see a list of all family members.
- Select the ⋯ (options menu) next to the family member whose Permissions you’d like to change.
- Scroll to the Permissions section.
- Choose one of the following:
- Apply a default role — Young Child, Child, Teenager, or Parent — which sets a preset combination of Permissions, or
- Manually review the individual Permission options and toggle each one on or off to customize the family member’s access.
Understanding the Parent permission
The Permission “Can add Family Members and Change Member’s Permissions” effectively makes an account a Parent account.
⚠️ Important: Once granted, this Permission cannot be revoked by another family member. Only the account holder themselves can disable it.
Roles at a glance
While the app offers template user types — Parent, Teenager, Child, and Young Child — family members essentially fall into two categories:
- Parents — accounts with the “Can add Family Members and Change Member’s Permissions” Permission enabled, giving them default admin rights
- Everyone else — family members whose Permissions are managed by a parent
Subscription differences
Parents (admins) can adjust Permissions for each family user, but the level of customization depends on your plan:
| Plan | Permission customization |
|---|---|
| Free | Limited personalized adjustments |
| Premium | Extensive adjustment options |
| Premium Plus | Extensive adjustment options |
